What is the condition of the ship?
All vessels’ equipment is in good condition and there is no issue with the structural integrity. A full inspection will be undertaken by independent investigators and the vessel will not sail until all requirements are met.
Was anyone on board hurt?
The crew on board is safe.
Is the plan now to sail to Brisbane?
The vessel is currently at anchor in the Port of Brisbane where investigations will continue in full cooperation with local authorities. Editor’s note: AMSA has updated the record, to confirm the ship is at the Port of Brisbane anchorage off Point Cartwright on the Sunshine Coast.
How is APL/CMA CGM cooperating with authorities?
While APL is the owner of the vessel, ANL is the charterer and operator of the APL England. We are working with authorities, ports and terminals to ensure the safe progress of the vessel and crew.
ANL comments:
ANL, operator of container vessel APL England, reports that the vessel suffered a brief loss of propulsion whilst approximately 40 Nautical Miles off Sydney, Australia, on 24th May.
Propulsion was quickly restored, but due to very heavy seas and weather conditions throughout the region, approximately 40 containers were dislodged from their secure mountings and fell overboard. None of these containers contain regulated ‘IMDG’ (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) or ‘dangerous’ cargo.
The vessel remains in a stable and operational condition and she is now at anchor at the Port of Brisbane, where authorities have commenced a full inspection. All crew members are safe and accounted for.ANL is working closely with the Australian authorities and we would like to thank them for their valued, very responsive and professional support.
