MARK Campbell has been announced as the new managing director and chief executive of the Australian Rail Track Corporation for the next five years.
He has more than 20 years’ senior management experience in Australia and overseas, including, most recently, as CEO and managing director of Holcim Australia and New Zealand, a leading supplier of aggregates, concrete and concrete products.
Deputy Prime Minister and infrastructure minister Michael McCormack welcomed the appointment.
“We look forward to working closely with Mr Campbell and continuing a strong professional relationship with the ARTC board and management as we deliver the 1700km Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail and improve and maintain some 8500km of rail,” Mr McCormack said.
“The rail network connects Australians and delivers products and produce across the country, providing a fast, efficient freight alternative while alleviating congestion on our roads, reduce transport costs and improve overall road safety for everyone,” he said.
“I want to thank outgoing CEO and managing director John Fullerton for his leadership of ARTC since 2011.”

Finance minister Mathias Cormann also praised Mr Fullerton’s work.
“Through outstanding service and leadership of the ARTC, John has left an indelible mark on not only the ARTC but Australia’s rail industry,” Minister Cormann said.
“During John’s tenure, the ARTC made significant improvements to the efficiency and competitiveness of Australia’s interstate rail network.”
The Australian Logistics Council issued a statement congratulating the incoming CEO.
“ARTC has been a long-standing Corporate Member of ALC and our organisations have worked together closely to secure regulatory and investment outcomes that support the vital role rail plays in Australia’s national freight network,” said CEO Kirk Coningham.
“In particular, the decision of the Federal Government to fund the construction of Inland Rail in 2017 was a watershed moment, following many years of advocacy by our organisation and the leading transport and logistics companies we represent.”
