RUGBY league legend Shane Webcke has met with workers at Patrick Terminals Fremantle operation to talk about safety and how “one snap decision” can change lives forever.
Webcke is from Leyburn in the Darling Downs region of Southern Queensland and was a tremendous prop forward for both the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland.
However he had to overcome personal tragedy when his father died in a work accident in the early 1990s.
In his capacity as a Safety Ambassador for Worksafe QLD, Webcke is running a series of talks at each terminal sharing his story of how his father’s death impacted his family while reinforcing the importance of staying safe at work and creating a strong safety culture.
“I lost my dad in a workplace incident, so I know first-hand that family and loved ones are the most important reason for work safety,” Webcke said recently.
Patrick Terminals, meanwhile, says it has been “focused on implementing a new safety campaign across all sites focussed on interrupting complacency”.
“This campaign aims to educate our workforce on the ramifications of taking short cuts and to recognise the real-life impacts of complacency, in an effort to increase risk awareness in our workplace, and provide the motivation for our people to hold each other to account for safety,” a Patrick Terminals terminal stated.
The current campaign centres around the personal story of NRL Legend Shane Webcke, who experienced firsthand the tragic outcomes of a workplace accident.
Shane told his story to the Patrick Terminals – Fremantle team this week and spoke about how one snap decision or moment of complacency changed lives forever. Patrick Terminals is committed to the core value of Everyone Home Safely, Every Day.
