GLADSTONE Ports Corporation is helping local youth gain their ‘L llates’, providing $7740 for the PCYC Gladstone’s Triple L Program.
As part of GPC’s Community Investment Program the sponsorship is to allow 30 local youths to get their learners licence and gain important life skills.
People, community and sustainability general manager Rowen Winsor said the sponsorship would cover the cost of written tests, learner permits and PCYC memberships.
“Triple L targets socially and financially disadvantaged youth aged 16 to 25 years, aiming to assist them to obtain their Learner Drivers Licence,” Ms Winsor said.
“We are proud to support PCYC Gladstone with this initiative, this program provides road safety education, life skills and learner support to empower youth who would otherwise face significant barriers to obtain a licence.”
Gladstone PCYC Youth Club manager, Sergeant Dominic Richardson said the PCYC’s mission was to build safer, healthier communities through youth development.
“Programs and activities are designed to encourage and empower participants to develop new skills and abilities which can be applied in all areas of life,” Sgt Richardson said.
“Outcomes of the program will include obtaining a learner licence, increased road safety awareness, appropriate driving behaviours, reduced road trauma and an opportunity to progress into the PCYC Braking the Cycle program.” The program starts at the end of this month.
