SECURING ongoing electricity to the Ingham region of North Queensland is the objective of bringing a new electricity transformer to Townsville.
The transformer was shipped to Port of Townsville Berth 4 on board the MS Eagle where it was unloaded by Northern Stevedoring Services.
It is to be deployed by Powerlink Queensland.
“This transformer was transported by truck to Powerlink’s Ingham South Substation as part of a $6m project to replace two ageing transformers to maintain safe, cost effective and reliable electricity supply to the Ingham area,” a Port of Townsville spokesperson said.
“This is the first of two replacement transformers to arrive, with the second expected in coming months and project works scheduled for completion in late 2020.”
