HIGHLIGHTING the role of the maritime industry is the aim of an event to be held in Fremantle later in the year.
The Company of Master Mariners of Australia and Fremantle Ports in association with the Department of Transport Marine Safety Business Unit are to celebrate Maritime Day.
Since 2009 Fremantle Ports Maritime Day has provided young people and the general community with an opportunity to learn more about work, training and educational opportunities in the maritime industry as well as being a fun, family orientated community event.
Last year, it was estimated that over 15,000 people attended.
Fremantle harbour master Captain Allan Gray said the event was “a wonderful opportunity” for participating in a “successful, well established and exciting event”.
Several key WA maritime organisations are to be showcasing their organisation at the event and there will be a wide range of activities.
These are to include Navy and maritime displays, tug boat tours, bands and other musical and children’s entertainment, as well as maritime careers information.
More information can be obtained by contacting Fremantle Ports social sustainability coordinator Jane Edwards on: jane.edwards@fremantleports.com.au
The open day is to be held in B Shed on Victoria Quay, Fremantle on Saturday 2 November 2019 from 10am to 4pm.
