SEA Asia 2019, a major maritime and offshore conference and exhibition in Singapore, is set to host more than 15,000 delegates from more than 80 countries and regions this 9 – 11 April.
As part of the fourteenth Singapore Maritime Week, it is to be opened by Singapore’s senior minister of state and transport minister, Dr Janil Puthucheary.
Executive director of the Singapore Maritime Foundation Kenneth Chia said this edition of Sea Asia would provide maritime leaders a platform to discuss the latest trends and challenges.
“The maritime industry is the backbone of global and Singapore trade, and is going through a rapidly changing landscape,” Mr Chia said.
“With regulations and external trends set to transform the way the industry traditionally operates, we are excited to continue building Sea Asia 2019 as a strong knowledge and networking platform to tackle industry-specific challenges.”
According to figures from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, container throughput in the island nation grew 8.7% to 36.6mTEU equivalent, and total cargo throughput remained stable at 630m tonnes – making Singapore one of the world’s busiest port.
Sea Asia 2019 is to feature new technologies on the exhibition show floor, as well as national pavilions.
Seatrade chairman Chris Hayman said current developments in the industry such as the upcoming International Maritime Organization Sulphur Cap 2020, and the growing collaborations between start-ups and maritime also would form significant parts of discussions at Sea Asia 2019.
“The sulphur cap sees the maritime industry moving into uncharted waters with what has been described as ‘a once in a century event’,” Mr Hayman said.
“As a result industry looking at alternative fuels and solutions to operate within the new environmental regulatory limits. At the same time, companies are looking towards collaboration with start-ups to bring innovative solutions to the table.”
