Pirika Mosiri Maru, a new coal carrier owned and operated by NYK was feted upon its delivery at Nagasaki, at a ceremony attended by NYK president Tadaaki Naito and HEPCO president and director Akihiko Maymi.
The Japanese-flagged ship will transport coal from Australia and Indonesia to the Tomato-Atsuma Coal Power Station, part of HEPCO’s thermal power plant.
Pirika Mosiri Maru’s design includes a binary cycle power generation system, which uses exhaust heat from the engine. The electric power generated will serve as auxiliary power, reducing carbon dioxide emissions to about 2% via a reduction in fuel use.
The 89,372 DWT vessel is 235 metres long, has a breadth of 43 metres, and a moulded depth of 18.4 metres.
